360° concert series
The Japanese pianist Aki Takase has been one of the most influential personalities in contemporary jazz for decades. Her career has taken her from Osaka via the New York scene to Berlin, where she lives today. International tours and projects with musicians such as David Murray, Fred Frith and Alexander von Schlippenbach testify to her stylistic openness and joy of playing.
For this special concert, she has invited mezzo-soprano Mayumi Nakamura. Together they will approach the character of Carmen - a proud, freedom-loving woman - from the perspective of jazz. Takase's interpretation is a rhapsody: a series of floating, dance-like thoughts inspired by themes from Bizet's opera, but free in form and expression.
Look forward to an idiosyncratic, playful homage to an iconic female figure - beyond convention.
